    Reports for this week indicate that recent heat across the province has led to continued crop progression where moisture is available, and increased crop stress where moisture remains low.

    Moisture Updates - July 26, 2023

    Since the last report (June 19th), most areas north of the Yellowhead Highway have received at least 10 mm of rain, with many accounts of hail, associated with intense thunderstorm activity.

    While there have been many reports to our Tree Specialist, Toso Bozic, regarding leaves deformed by various blotch leafminers, neither Poplar or Willow Galls and Leafminers pose any significant threat to the health of trees or shrubs.

    Moisture Updates - July 19, 2023

    Since the last report (July 12, 2023) precipitation activity was concentrated between townships 35 to 75, with localized rainfall occurring near the B.C. border in the county of Northern Lights and Clear Hills county on July 17 and 18. Northern Sunrise County, the Municipal District of Opportunity, Wood Buffalo I.D & R.M, Mackenzie County, the Municipal District of Spirit River, and the Municipal District of Fairview received 20 to 50 mm of precipitation for this seven day period.

    Several areas in Alberta have experienced limited precipitation this growing season, and as a result, some producers are considering putting their crops to alternate uses rather than waiting for them to mature and mechanically harvesting them.

    From June 30 to July 3, 2023, we have seen 5-10 mm of precipitation across dry parts of the Peace Region, with much of the Southern Region remaining dry.
