Tax Credit for Wheat and Barley Producers

Wheat and barley producers who pay check-off through Alberta Grains (formerly Alberta Barley Commission) and the Alberta Wheat Commission, could be eligible for a 32% tax credit through the Scientific Research and Experimental Development Fund (SR&ED) program.

The federal SR&ED program, encourages research and development (R&D) investment through tax-based incentives, providing producers with tax credits for their expenditures on eligible work. The tax credit percentage is based on the amount invested in R&D work, that meets the criteria laid out by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

Eligible growers can take advantage of this tax credit and apply meaningful financial support to their farm operations.

Please note, producers who have requested a refund of their check-off are not eligible for the tax credit.
