Supporting the Future of Regional Ag Societies

The Government of Alberta is funding a study to receive recommendations on how the province can best support its seven regional agricultural societies into the future.

Alberta has seven rural agricultural societies in Canmore, Grande Prairie, Lethbridge, Lloydminster, Medicine Hat, OIds, and Red Deer, each of which plays a large role in the surrounding community. Staffed by Albertans with a love for community, they develop educational programs, organize major community events, and provide services based on community needs. They also run major facilities like trade centres and exhibition grounds for people to enjoy.

To determine how best to support these agricultural societies, Alberta has hired contractor Deloitte to provide recommendations. The study will be funded through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership’s (Sustainable CAP) Resiliency and Public Trust program. Sustainable CAP is a five-year, $3.5-billion investment by federal, provincial and territorial governments to strengthen competitiveness, innovation and resiliency in Canada’s agriculture, agri-food and agri-based products sector.
