STARS 2024 Annual Update

Glenda Farnden, Senior Municipal Relations Liaison, with STARS, was present at the September 24, 2024 Council Meeting, to provide an annual update on the organization's operations.

In 2023/24, STARS handled a total of 37,365 emergency requests, which is an average of 102 requests per day, resulting in approximately 11 daily missions. Four of these missions were carried out within Saddle Hills County, although a total of 42 Saddle Hills County residents were flown via STARS, from a number of locations throughout B.C. and Alberta.

STARS also reported a new addition to it's medical toolkit, with an innovative new blood protocol. Now, in addition to carrying blood, medical crews also have access to two other products that help stop bleeding. These can be utilized in extreme trauma cases and for patients who require more than two units of blood.

Saddle Hills County has been a partner of STARS for 17 years, and has provided many donations over this time, including a $200,000 a year fixed rate donation, due to expire in 2025.

Thank you to Glenda, and the entire STARS team, for all that you do to help residents of rural communities access the critical, life-saving care they need, in some of the most challenging conditions.
