As a community, Saddle Hills County has managed to raise more than $51,000 for the citizens of the Ukraine. Payment was sent this week to the Canada-Ukraine foundation in support of the embattled citizens of the Eastern European nation which has been at war since February.

In March of 2022, Saddle Hills County Council advised all community organizations in the County that it would match any funds raised through any fundraising efforts the groups engaged in.

In addition, the County supported local schools in their efforts to raise funds for Ukraine through matching donations for the Spirit River Regional Academy and the Bonanza School’s Art Auction.

The Russo-Ukrainian War is an ongoing war between Russia (together with pro-Russian separatist forces) and Ukraine. It began in February 2014 following the Ukrainian Revolution of Dignity, and initially focused on the status of Crimea and the Donbas, internationally recognised as part of Ukraine.
