Participants Needed for Colorectal Cancer Research Project

Colorectal cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related death among men and women in Alberta. If found early through screening, 90% of cases can be treated successfully.

Cancer Prevention and Screening Innovation of Alberta Health Services is conducting a research study to
understand colorectal cancer screening and colonoscopy follow up care in Alberta. They will be conducting focus groups to gain people’s perspectives on having or not having a recommended colonoscopy after a positive FIT test (poop test) – a standard test to screen for colorectal cancer.

You can participate in the focus group discussions online or over the phone on MS Teams. It will take up to
1.5 hours. If you are interested in participating, please complete the eligibility survey at redcap.link/CRCSsurvey or call (403) 943-2883.

Eligible participants would need to meet the following criteria:

  • Had a positive FIT test between 2020-2024
  • Are between the ages 50-74 at the time of positive FIT test
  • No history of gastrointestinal conditions (such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis)
  • No personal/family history of Colorectal Cancer at time of positive FIT test
  • Located in the North Zone (NZ) (Peace River and Central Peace area - Spirit River, Rycroft, MD Spirit River, Saddle Hills County) at the time of the positive FIT test

Your point of view will help to understand what resources and/or pathways are needed to support people in completing colorectal cancer screening.
