Harvest Sample Program Deadline Extended

The government has extended the deadline for the Harvest Sample Program to January 31, 2025, to account for delays caused by the postal strike last year.

Program Overview

The Harvest Sample Program is a voluntary program in which participants receive an annual sample kit to send in crop samples, at no cost to the producer. For each sample, Canadian Grain Commission Inspectors provide unofficial grade and quality results at no cost, including:

  • Falling Number for wheat and rye
  • Vomitoxin (deoxynivalenol or DON) levels for wheat, corn, barley and oats
  • Dockage assessment on canola and mustard seed
  • Protein content on barley, beans, chickpeas, lentils, oats, peas and wheat
  • Oil, protein and chlorophyll content for canola
  • Oil and protein content and iodine value for flaxseed
  • Oil and protein for mustard seed and soybeans

These results are then used to compile grain harvest quality reports based on scientific analysis of samples, which is then used to help marketers promote domestic and international sales of Canadian grain.
