Free Mental Health First Aid for Seniors Course
Mental First Aid Supporting Older Adults (MHFA SOA) is an evidence-based training course by the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC), designed for people who have frequent contact with older adults such as through continuing care, home care, and seniors lodges, as well as family members, friends, caregivers, health workers, and volunteers.
In collaboration with the MHCC, Imagine Institute for Learning is offering free MHFA SOA courses across Alberta, for a period of three years. Courses are available in both online and in-person format.
The course trains participants to effectively recognize and respond to an emerging mental health problem or crisis, until the situation is resolved, or appropriate treatment is found. Some of the topics covered include panic attacks, substance-related disorders, mood-related disorders, anxiety and trauma, psychosis and psychotic episodes, and dementia.
