Evacuation Order and Alert

Saddle Hills County has issued an Evacuation Alert due to wildfires burning in Saddle Hills County. While the Alberta Emergency Alert is no longer active, the Evacuation Alert is still in place, as detailed below.

Saddle Hills County has issued an Evacuation Alert due to Wildfire GWF077, burning south of Highway 49, in the Gordondale area. This fire is considered Out of Control at 159 ha, although there is no immediate threat to any structures in the area.

Residents and visitors south of Township Road 790, between Range Road 102 and Range Road 111, should be prepared to evacuate on short notice, if required. Please gather all important documentation, medications and medical equipment, and any necessary items for yourself, family members, and pets for up to 72 hours. 

This Evacuation Alert will remain in place until the fire is considered sufficiently controlled. 

Fire Restriction in Effect

As of July 29, 2024, a FIRE RESTRICTION is in place for Saddle Hills County and the Grande Prairie Forest Protection Area. Fire Permits may be restricted or suspended, as required.

Under a Fire Restriction, safe wood campfires are allowed on public lands, in a designated campground, in backyard firepits, and on private lands.

Capital, Operating, Community Signs, and Cemetery Grants - Now Open!

Saddle Hills County is now accepting applications for 2025 Capital, Operating, Community Signs, and Cemetery Grants. 

Capital Grants

Community Organizations looking for assistance with capital expenditures to enhance the lifestyle of County residents, such as building or renovating Community Halls, building playgrounds, or other capital projects, are asked to apply for funding through our Capital Grants program. 

Any community group wishing to apply for assistance through this grant, should complete and submit a Capital Grant Applications Form.

Operating Grants

Community Organizations looking for assistance with operating expenses are asked to apply for funding through our Operating Grants program. This program assists with funding for specific operating costs for eligible groups, such as electricity, internet, heating, water, insurance, and other utilities as outlined in Policy AD06. If applying, please ensure these costs are included in your submitted budgets and financial statements.

Any community group wishing to apply for assistance through this grant, should please complete and submit an Operating Grant Applications Form.

Please note, that funding for eligible Operating Grants has increased from 75% to 85%. 

Cemetery Maintenance Grants

Community Organizations, Societies, and Non-Profits responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of Cemeteries throughout the County should apply for funding through our Cemetery Maintenance Grants program.

Anyone wishing to apply for assistance through this grant, should please complete and submit a Cemetery Maintenance Grant Application. 

Community Signs Grant Program

Registered Non-Profit Societies and Community Groups in Saddle Hills County are encouraged to apply for the Community Signs Grant Program, which allows for the installation of signs designating communities within the County ie. Bay Tree, Gordondale.

Groups who receive approval for the grants will be responsible for providing a preferred sign location. Groups are asked to fill out an Community Signs Grant Program Application.

The deadline for applications is October 15, 2024.
