Be Prepared: Spring Blizzards
Alberta experiences diverse hazards, including blizzards and ice storms, even in the spring.
Be prepared with the following tips:
- Avoid travel, but if you must, get and stay informed by checking Alberta 511 for road conditions and closures before you leave. Always let someone know where you’re headed and your estimated arrival time.
- Stay indoors, but if you go outside, dress for the weather and pay attention to large sheets of ice on buildings, tree branches or powerlines that could fall unexpectedly.
- Maintain emergency supplies like non-perishable food, water, medications and more than can sustain you for 72 hours minimum if you have to shelter in place.
Severe weather can happen at any time. Protect yourself and loved ones by knowing the risks and learning other preparedness habits that you can adopt over time.
