Be Plant Wise: Invasive Species Action Week

Invasive species are in our gardens: Approximately 58% of invasive plant species have been deliberately introduced to Canada through the horticulture trade as agronomic crops, landscape plants, ornamentals, or medicinal plants (Invasive alien plants in Canada, Technical Report, CFIA, 2011).

Invasive plants have little-to-no predators in our environment to keep their populations in check. These plants often escape gardens and outcompete native plants for nutrients, water, and space in our natural spaces.

For a PlantWise garden make sure to: buy locally grown plants, plant only non-invasive and native plant species and know how each plant grows! To learn more about unwanted #invasive plants visit www.Plant-Wise.ca
