Register For Kids Agicultural Fair By June 27

Saddle Hills County is sponsoring the Kid’s Agricultural Innovation Fair for Grade 1 – 12 students.  The Fair is an open competition for the brilliant minds of tomorrow’s leaders in Agriculture.  The event takes place at the County Complex on August 24, 2019.

In order to participate, students must register no later than June 27 at 4:00 pm by calling Emily at Saddle Hills County – (780) 864-3760.

There will be a $500 Grand Prize awarded and participation prizes will be awarded for all projects entered Children from Grade 1 – 12* are invited.

Agriculture & Innovation in Saddle Hills County

Projects are expected to be focused on Agriculture related to a number of topics including:

·        Environmental / conservation

               water, soil, energy

- Examples: use wind or solar energy (or combination) to replace grid power for something on the farm, collect rainwater or storm runoff and filter it for practical use, demonstrate a creative way to reduce soil erosion, etc.

·        Improved efficiencies

               mechanical, managerial, crop & livestock

- Examples: build a mechanical rig that is used to save time or that makes a task easier to do, design a corral system that shows improvements in how to manage a livestock yard, etc.

·        Farm safety

·        Entrepreneurship, Tourism, Marketing

- Examples: create a new way to package, market, and price an agriculture product (i.e. jams, honey, potatoes, gift baskets, arrangements, etc.)

·        Non– Traditional Crop & Livestock Production

- Examples: demonstrate how to produce a crop or type of livestock that is uncommon in the Peace region

·        Traditional Crop & Livestock Production

Students are encouraged to showcase their project at the fair using pictures, videos, and/or posters. 

Please note: Due to biosecurity risks livestock will not be permitted at the fair. 

There will be lots of additional activities for younger children at the fair including:

·        Bouncy Castle

·        Glitter Tattoos

·        Tractor Pedal Car Races

·        Interactive Grain Box

·        Yard Games
