Saddle Hills County native Lukas Konashuk and the Grande Prairie Storm Jr. take on the visiting Czech Republic at Revolution Place Arena on Thursday, December 5 at 7:00 pm.

Tickets range from $10 to $20 and are available on the Revolution Place website. Konashuk plays forward for the Storm and at 6 ft. 2” and 190 lbs he is a force to be reckoned with.

Lukas KonashukKonashuk grew up in Bonanza and has played hockey since the age of three. His proud dad Carl says right from his early days playing in Savanna his love of the game was evident.

“After the minors, Lukas attended a couple of hockey academies – one in Penticton and one in Edmonton – before joining the Storm,” says Carl. In Penticton, Konashuk attended the OHA academy  and in Edmonton he attended the Northern Alberta Extreme Academy.

“It’s just so great to see him pursuing his dreams,” says Carl, adding, “Seeing him now I wouldn't change a moment of his young hockey years for the world.”

The game is being played in advance of the ‘2019 World Junior A Challenge’  which runs from December 7 – 15 in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John.

Lukas KonashukThe tournament represents a partnership between Hockey Canada, the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL), B.C. Hockey, NHL Central Scouting and the local host committee. Two Canadian teams – Team Canada East and Team Canada West – will compete against the Czech Republic, Russia and the United States for a gold medal at the 4,500-seat Encana Events Centre.

Mayor Dale Bumstead says, “The City of Dawson Creek is thrilled to once again host the world at the Encana Events Centre, bringing some of the best young hockey players from around the world to our community for a week of amazing action. It is very special for us to be able to share this event with our neighbouring Peace Country communities.”
