County Working On Canada Thistle

County Working On Canada Thistle
Posted on 06/26/2017
Weed and Pest Inspectors have noted a brown rust on the creeping (Canada) thistle.  Closer inspection tells us that it is a biocontrol that may help us in our battle.

At this time of the year, thistle that is infected will show a brown rusty red color as in the photo, during late fall the plants will die and infect the new shoots on the ground and over winter in the roots.

The rust can significantly decrease or kill the infestations.  The process can take several years.
The County is working at dispersing the spores.   For more information, please contact your Agricultural Fieldman.
