Saddle Hills County has a great deal to offer today’s family on summer vacation.
For those who enjoy the outdoors, Saddle Hills County provides a number of great opportunities.
From the Dunvegan West Wildlands, Silver Valley Ecological Reserve or the Cotillion Recreation Area along the Peace River, to our inland lakes and campgrounds, Saddle Hills offers some of Northwestern Alberta’s most interesting geological formations, wilderness hiking and family camping opportunities.

Summer in Saddle Hills
From parks and camping to hiking, fishing and boating, Saddle Hills has a great deal to offer the traveler during the summer months.
Several of our communities and some of our neighbours hold agricultural fairs, rodeos and parades during the summer months.

Recreational Opportunities
Throughout the county a number of parks, campgrounds, playgrounds and recreation facilities offer a full range of opportunities for recreation.
Birders and wildlife watchers can enjoy a day or evening at Jack Bird Pond (3.5 km SE of Moonshine Lake) or at the McQueen's Slough just across the BC border near Dawson Creek.

The Peace River
Kayakers, canoeists and power boaters can enjoy the Peace River which forms our Northern border .
For a look back at the history of the fur trade in Western Canada, nearby the Historic Dunvegan Historic Site offers some exceptional insights.

Kakut Lake
Just east of the Highway 2 exit for Woking, about 11 kilometres down Highway 677 (Peoria Road) you'll find Kakut Lake.
According to their website, Kakut Lake Resort is a non-profit organization, run by volunteers. The campsite is available to campers or visitors that would like to come to fish for the day.
Dogs are welcome in the camp but they should be on leashes and cleaned up after. A children's park is available for public use, as well as Devon field (baseball diamond). The small pond is stocked with 1500, 6-8 inch trout each year. The big lake is not stocked.
