Agricultural Services

Our County is a farming community at heart, and we take pride in seeing our residents succeed. Our Agricultural Services Department works with our Agricultural Services Board to help the producers of Saddle Hills County, with anything from Weed and Pest Control, to educational resources and Outreach and Extension Programs, Research Partnerships, Tree Seedling ProgramTree Resources and Advice, and Veterinary Services Inc. (VSI). You can also get involved with on of our many Agricultural Societies, including programs such as 4H.

The Agricultural Services Department is also proud to offer the Veterinary Innovation Grant Program and Veterinary Education Bursary Program, intended to help veterinarians and students find support and producers in the County the ability to access the services they need. For mental health support for farmers and their families, we recommend AgTalk, a service that provides resources targeted to the specific issues faced in the agriculture industry.

We are committed to the high quality of our crops and, as such, the control of invasive species, including Wild Boar and Rats. Alongside this, with the threat of seasonal wildfires, we offer Livestock Emergency Preparedness and Agricultural Producer Wildfire Planning resources for our resident producers.

As of 2024, Saddle Hills County is now an ALUS partner, and is implementing a three-year trial of the program for resident producers. The ALUS Partnership Advisory Committee (PAC) helps to oversee and administer the program on behalf of producers.

The County also strives to provide the latest Agricultural News to our local producers, connecting them with resources and information relevant to them.

Each summer, we hire seasonal Weed and Pest Inspectors, giving young people an opportunity to gain hands-on agricultural experience while also giving back to the community.
