Autumn In Saddle Hills County

Harvest is either over or just beginning (depending on the season and depending on the crop), Hunters are beginning to make their way into the bush. It's autumn in Saddle Hills County.

Saddle Hills County has a great deal to offer today’s family on vacation looking for fall colours, quiet lakes and rivers or hiking opportunities in some of Alberta's most geologically interesting territory.

Hunting In Saddle Hills County

For hunters thinking of coming to Saddle Hills County here are two 'must-read' articles.

The Outdoors Is Our Back Yard

While most of our campgrounds are serviced until mid-October, visitors are welcome year-round. We simply ask that you stay bear-smart and clean up after yourself by taking out your refuse.

Some spots, like Moonshine Lake, offer winter skating and ice-fishing later on and still welcome visitors during the cool nights of autumn.

For those who enjoy the outdoors, Saddle Hills County provides a number of great opportunities.

From the Dunvegan West WildlandsSilver Valley Ecological Reserve or the Cotillion Recreation Areaalong the Peace River, to our inland lakes and campgrounds, Saddle Hills offers some of Northwestern Alberta’s most interesting geological formations, wilderness hiking and family camping opportunities.

Recreational Opportunities

Throughout the county a number of parks, campgrounds, playgrounds and recreation facilities offer a full range of opportunities for recreation.

Birders and wildlife watchers can enjoy a day or evening at Jack Bird Pond (3.5 km SE of Moonshine Lake) or at the McQueen's Slough just across the BC border near Dawson Creek.

The Peace River

Kayakers, canoeists and power boaters can still enjoy the Peace River which forms our Northern border by using the Dunvegan Boat Launch.

Dunvegan Boat Launch & Campground Cotillion Park and Cotillion Campsite are all open Mid-May to Mid-October.

The Historic Dunvegan Historic Site closes September 5th but a wander around the grounds still offers some exceptional insights and a look back at the history of the fur trade in Western Canada.
